Hidden Treasure
Part 2: The Danger of Lesser Treasures
Last week, we began our series “Hidden Treasure” by listening to Jesus in Matthew 6. He told us, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” and then He called us to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.”
The message talked about how our pursuit reveals our treasure, because what we chase shows what we value. We also saw that earthly treasures can’t carry eternal weight, and Jesus lovingly calls us to re-center our lives around what lasts.
In Part 2, I'll be talking about “The Danger of Lesser Treasures.”
Lesser treasures rarely announce themselves as idols; they quietly gain influence by promising security, satisfaction, and significance. Jesus warns us that life is not found in abundance, accumulating things, or visible success, but our treasure can be found in God.
And I want to say this carefully from the beginning. This sermon is not a guilt trip for having possessions, earning a living, planning for the future, saving wisely, or enjoying good gifts.
Scripture doesn’t condemn wise stewardship. Proverbs speaks often about diligence, planning, and provision.
The danger Jesus exposes today is more subtle than that. It’s the quiet belief that if we can just have enough, store enough, build enough, earn enough, or control enough, then we’ll finally be safe, and satisfied and that's were the story from Luke 12:13-21 comes into play.

What We Believe
*We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error.
*We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
*We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world.
*We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with him but that relationship was broken through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts.
*We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin.
*We believe all Christians should live in obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, desiring to become more like Jesus.
*We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him and by making him known to the lost world.
